What is a hair transplant?

Hair transplantation with the manual FUE method (follicular unit extraction or sometimes called follicular unit transplantation) is scarless and sutureless hair transplants a method in which individual hair follicles are obtained from a part of the donor's body, usually from the sides and back of the head. These individual follicles are then transplanted to the required locations. Men are characterized by missing hair on the front of the head, which looks like the classic horseshoe or on the top of the head.

Cost of the procedure depend on the number of transplant grafts and the complexity of the operation. What is a hair graft in a hair transplant?

A hair graft is a unit of hair transplantation. It contains a hair follicle that produces new hair after transplantation. The graft consists of follicles - usually from 1 to 4 hairs. This is also taken into account when estimating the total cost of hair transplant surgery. 

How did the FUE hair transplant method work? 

During the procedure, individual follicles, usually 1 to 4 hairs, are removed under local anesthesia. The extraction procedure uses a microsurgical extraction instrument with a diameter of 0.8 mm to 1.0 mm to remove the follicles. A surgeon, using specialized microfiber needles, then transplant the follicles into the required areas. Does the transplanted hair fall out?

What should I do before hair transplant surgery? 

For at least 3 days before the hair transplant surgery, you should not use alcohol, aspirin-containing medicines, highly saturated foods, such as chili, garlic. We also advise against taking multivitamins. 

The use of such products affects the speed of blood clotting. This can lead to complications both during and after the procedure. Sometimes it is useful to perform some scalp care exercises to improve the condition of the scalp before hair transplant surgery. 

Will I be in pain during the hair transplant procedure? 

No. Hair transplantation is not a painful procedure. The biggest discomfort you feel as a patient is the first local anesthetic injections. Once the initial local anesthetic injections have taken effect, all subsequent local anesthetic injections and the procedure will be completely comfortable and painless.  

When will I be able to see the results of the hair transplant? 

A typical result of a hair transplant begins to appear after about 3-4 months, when the hair follicles enter a new phase of hair growth. As the new hair grows, it will push out the old, transplant and fall out to make room for the new hair to grow. The appearance of thickness and fullness will continue to develop and the final results of the hair transplant are visible within 12-18 months. 

How soon can I return to work after a hair transplant? 

It is possible to return to work after 24 hours. It largely depends on the type of work you do and how open people are to you knowing you've had a hair transplant. 

How soon after the procedure will my appearance return to normal? 

Usually 7 days. However, it depends on the extent of the hair transplant. It varies from patient to patient.  

Is it possible to take hair from another donor? 

No. Currently, it is not possible to use hair from another person, regardless of whether it belongs to you, for example, if they are twins or relatives. The body will perceive such hair follicles as foreign bodies and protect itself from them. It can also cause other complications. 

Do I need to shave my hair before the procedure? 

No. The length of your hair, the type of hair transplant technique you have will depend on whether your hair needs to be processed for a hair transplant. How soon after the procedure can I resume sports? 

Usually after 2 weeks. This depends on the amount of hair transplanted and the type of physical activity you want to resume. 

What causes hair loss? 

Hair loss is associated with many conditions or diseases. Inherited genes have the greatest influence. However, the majority of hair loss sufferers have Androgenetic Alopecia or alopecia.

Can I shower after a hair transplant? 

You can take a shower immediately after the hair transplant. However, do not wash your hair for 3 to 5 days. We also recommend that you avoid direct water contact with the transplant site during this time. As protection, we recommend using a shower cap or something similar.

It is important to realize that transplanted hair only replaces lost hair and does not prevent the potential loss of existing hair. Do hair transplants really work?

The number of treatments required depends on your goals, your current level of hair loss and how it might change in the future. Most patients require 2 procedures during their lifetime. 

After how long can I see the results of a hair transplant? 

The transplanted hair will adopt and grow in 3-6 weeks after the hair transplant procedure and then start growing after 2-4 months. At about the 6-month stage, we expect the recovery to be half-way and the final result to be achieved within 12-14 months. Does the hair transplant procedure pose a risk to my health?

How long does the hair transplant procedure take? 

Procedures the duration is usually 6-8 hours for a one-day hair transplant session and a total of 12-16 hours for a 2-day session. Can I read a book, watch TV or phone during the procedure? 

Yes, this is possible during the procedure, however we recommend listening to music on your phone, watching TV or movies on one of our tablets or TVs. This may be more comfortable because the head position needs to be changed during the procedure. There are electrical sockets nearby and you can easily charge your phone or tablet. 

What about lunch and meals on the day of the procedure? 

We offer patients a variety of dishes in our clinic for every taste. If you have any special dietary requirements, please write to us 7 days before the procedure so that we can provide the food of your choice. Please inform us of any food allergies and possible reactions to any type of food. 

How many grafts will be transplanted? 

Throughout the procedure, we will keep you informed of the number of transplanted grafts and the surgical progress. You can ask questions about the procedure at any time. During your lunch break, you can look at your grafts and the quality of your follicles, and the clinic staff will help you understand and explain the process. At the end of the procedure, we will provide you with a summary showing the exact number of grafts for your procedure. 

Can I have a hair transplant procedure if I have needle phobia? 

Yes, it is possible to do this and it is important to inform the clinic staff so that we can prepare and ensure that any needles or injection instruments are placed out of sight of the patient. Needle phobia is very common and it is important that you inform the clinic staff in advance so that we can prepare the hair transplant team to make any adjustments to make the procedure easier for the patient. 

What clothing should be worn for the procedure? 

We recommend that you come to the clinic on the day of the procedure in loose, athletic, comfortable clothing with thick socks. You can change clothes in the clinic in the patient lounge. You will be given disposable slippers at the clinic. After the procedure, we will provide you with a new baseball cap. 

What post-procedure regime does the patient need?

Your personalized post-procedure program will be communicated and explained to you, which includes a 4-day course of antibiotics to protect against infection and, optionally, some medication to avoid post-operative swelling.  

When can I swim after the procedure? 

We recommend swimming for 14 days after the procedure, especially in swimming pools with increased chlorine content. 

When can I drink alcohol? 

We recommend that you avoid alcohol for at least 7 days after the procedure, also taking into account the need for antibiotics and medication.  

Can I go on a holiday trip after the procedure? 

Yes, we recommend a week off for perfect recovery. Please make sure you follow the post-op instructions and avoid direct sunlight on the transplant area for 14 days after the procedure. 

How long after the procedure can I sunbathe? 

After the hair transplant procedure, protect yourself from direct sunlight or rain for at least 14 days. For two weeks after the procedure, we recommend that you wear a hat if you are in direct sunlight. Please make sure you take all measures to prevent sunburn on your head for two months after the procedure. 

When can I wear a motorcycle helmet? 

We recommend waiting 7 days after the procedure to resume wearing protective clothing for activities such as motorcycling or skiing.
